Looking for a Job Using the Web to Succeed

Friday, December 18th, 2009

A modern job search campaign is by nature fairly involved. While the net has offered a variety of new channels, it also creates increased competition for choice jobs and potential challenges for job hunters.

Job hunting needs to be thought of as a personalized, extremely directed marketing process where you are the product. Your resume is an advertisement. Your extended network of contacts is your source for information.

So where does the net fit in? At AA-Careers, we recently posted a job on a popular job site and got over 600 responses in a calendar week. For a single opening. That’s increased job hunting competition.

Had a strong candidate called us before we placed the ad, they could have secured the position before running in to all that competition. How? By knowing someone at our company who became aware of the job prior to posting. Everyone was aware of the job for at least 11 days before it was posted. Who in your network might know of a job that’s coming available soon?

Be careful how you submit your application as well. When we did an analysis of the 650 resumes, we found a large number of errors. 63% of the applicants were easily taken out with a fast-paced triage process. How? The same way any hiring manager would. By rejecting resumes where the objective didn’t match our job posting. By rejecting prospects whose cover letters gave us causes not to hire them, like "I know I’m overqualified but I really need a job". By eliminating prospects whose documents that didn’t open properly. And by eliminating prospects who didn’t trouble to spell check their cover letter and/or resume.

So the good news is that job sites give you a feel of what companies are hiring, and for what kinds of positions. But once those jobs are posted, the competition is intense. You can still compete, if you have a well written resume, designed to appeal directly and clearly to the recruiter. And if you have practiced interviewing – so you don’t stumble at a critical point.

Another downside to be aware of is how quickly you can be looked up on the internet. As we Googled several job hunters, we ran into some Facebook comments that were in questionable taste. Nothing crazy, but enough to rock our thinking about who to employ.

AA-Careers provides a all-inclusive set of services for Bay Area job seekers, providing our clients a personal career consultant, a managed job hunting campaign, modern tools like a personal website, video, highly targeted resume, and much more. Let us know if we can help you.

Be careful out there, and good hunting!

Spiritual Practice in Everyday Life

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

The Everyday Sanyasin can make the entire world his monastery. Everything that’s happening in daily life can suddenly become part of your spiritual practice, as if you were in seclusion working with your beads, your images, and your mantras. How can we put these tools in our tool belt and make them work for us day to day, as in The Everyday Sanyasin?

Well, the first, and easiest, aspect is to remember that we are working at making the ideal of the image as intimately involved in who we are as possible. The way to make that part of your inventory of potential actions in life is, first of all, when you get up in the morning, take a few minutes. You don’t have to sit down and do 45 minutes or three hours worth of practice, but take a few minutes to focus on the image. Sing the song of praise or of connection that you like, that goes along with the image. Use the time to make an offering, to do whatever you can that aligns who you are with the qualities of the image, so that becomes the beginning of your day. You then begin your day with that as your organizing structure of perception.

It’s really important to do that at the beginning of your day, whenever your day starts whether you wake up at six in the morning, or you’re like me and wake up at ten in the morning. Whenever you awaken and begin to move about the cabin, so to speak, that’s the time to really start that resonation, because it sets the tone for the day. It’s also a grand idea to do that at the end of your day, even to the point that you might drop off to sleep singing the song or saying the mantra.

You could do it when you come home from work. That’s a great time to do it too, because you’re in a transition. The beauty of this is, as an Everyday Sanyasin, I’m using everything in my life. My world is my temple. I’m using the music that’s coming over the radio or that I’m listening to on the CD. I’m using the actions of the drivers on the drive home. I’m using all of these things as vehicles of opening, as Vehicles of Awakening. So if it means I’m singing, I get off work, I get in my car, and as I’m starting to drive home, I’m singing the song or a song, because it doesn’t have to be just one. It could be several songs that remind you of the divine quality that you want to bring out in yourself.

Importance of Monthly Budgeting

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Overseeing my family budget can often be very challenging, not handling it properly can put me in to further debt before I realise it. The gains from looking after my budget correctly not only save me money but help to relieve some stress I have worrying about my debt.

I have numerous things in life that regulate me financially, my household budget is the deepest influence. There are not too many people these days who have learned how to budget and this can result in many financial troubles, including debt. One reason why so many people do not create a budget is because many of us think it is too complicated. But in essence, devising a budget does not have to be challenging at all; it can be as easy as recording down what we spend and updating it every month. By practicing this habit, we do not spend more than we have.

It is essential for me to keep in mind that my budget is simply my plan for my monthly expenditure. Just like any plan, my budget does call for me to manage it to keep it operating correctly. First step is to organize the information that I need in it. I monitor my expenses like car payments, utilities, car insurance, living expenses, etc. If I do not coordinate my budget, I can easy find myself in debt. It is vital for me to know exactly what I need on expenditures each month.

I see two advantages with keeping up with my finances through my budget. Firstly, it eliminates unnecessary expenditure. And secondly, I can keep myself from going into unnecessary debt. When I spend my money wisely, I buy only things that are essential and I free up money that I can use on something that I want or can save it. With the surplus money I am able to save, I have the option of putting it aside and investing.

Kick Start The New You: Synthetic Wigs to Edify Spirit in the Lows of Women’s Hair Loss

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Most couldn’t believe the radiant Chandra Sinclair, our family friend, would wear wigs. Her signature hair and fashion was synonymous with her mystique. Have you seen her lately? Our favorite gal will always be known because of her hair. Only a handful of souls even care that she wears synthetic wigs. They work well.

When we were young girls in our home town of Scottsdale, we regularly knocked ‘em dead. But in college her women’s hair loss reared its head and she became nearly bald. I mentioned a few lace wigs. Whatever, she shrugged it off. Unfazed by medical hair loss, she fearlessly never let you forget about her innate beauty.

Obliged to show at our university’s homecoming, we flirted with the crowd until some kluts accidentally threw the little ball (or whatever they play with) towards the fans. With quick reflexes she went to grab it and her bandana landed in a beer, uncovering her hair (or lack thereof). Like nothing happened, she walked over and delivered it to her man. She’s that kind of girl.

However, everyone has insecurities. Not too long after at our semi-monhtly cookie baking marathon, the day she looked me in the eye and told me that she opts to go bald as a statement. She loved her old hair so much she can’t even look at women’s medical wigs, though she knew it was a good idea. At that disclosure, miss invincible turned flush red and demanded that I can’t mention it again. I didn’t know what to say.

I thought about it all night. That night, I talked about getting her a new wig. After a long deliberation we both ended up with the obvious conclusion: we’d buy each other wigs So I’m getting one too!

The both of us were bewildered by the wide selection of hair colors, textures and styles. She couldn’t believe that synthetic wigs were this fashionable for people, even superstars. These lace wigs made her so lovely. Personally, I arranged an entirely fresh wardrobe to wear with my synthetic wig. Out of solidarity, you know. Not long ago she sent me her thanks for invisible lace front wig, and disclosed that it encourages a new attitude in her life. It’s a relief to watch my best friend rediscover the sassy, feminine girl I remember. I’m right there with her.

Writing a Resume

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

When it comes to acquiring the art of resume writing, the most influential thing is ensure that you can get the attention of recruitment companies who influence prospective employers. The objective is to make sure that your resume stands out from among hundreds of other resumes submitted. The best way to create and figure out how to compose a CV is to spotlight your past experiences and relate that with the current position you are applying for. It is crucial that you use keywords so that it will be read all the way through and not just scanned, discarded away in a stack completely dismissed.

Irrespective of the job you are going for, it is really essential to express that you are beyond qualified for the job than what is expressed on your curriculum vitae. Your name and contact info leads your curriculum vitae and then there is a elaborate summary of your job history and listing of main firms you have worked for previously that will stand out to a prospective employer for the position you are applying for. Make sure you bold and highlight your core skills of your abilities. Next you should include your educational background and list any honours and accolades that further enhance your CV.

Finish your curriculum vitae with list of references that your future employer can contact about your past experiences and future abilities. You should take the approach when learning to write a resume to ensure each segment is headed correctly for easy reading. Do not forget to list the years of each former employments. Use a spell checker to correct any misspelled terms or phrases. Make sure your curriculum vitae can be freely switched to different formats. Some employers may request PDF, HTML, or Word formats. Your curriculum vitae and covering letter should work unitedly in creating a matchless profile of your abilities.

Meet Your Honest Gal Who Finally Gets Great Expectations

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Firstly, I cannot say I’m pleasantly comfortable living alone and not crack a smile. However, I’m not uncomfortable about it, either. I merely mention it here as a delicious piece of info foreshadowing what I am about to explain in grand style.

A week ago today yours truly was walking the dog, Trisha, pondering about joining Great Expectations Dallas. As of this minute, I type to my readers as a happy member of the matchmaking service. No kidding, I am. Its very comfortable and full of nice people! If you know me at all, you may be wondering, “You totally owe me an explanation.”

Here’s how it went down, I looked at this Great Expectations Dating site and liked what I saw. They’re for quality and professional singles who care enough to know dating doesn’t have to be so frivolous and stupid.

‘Cause I’d never been too big on this silly social phenomenon my friends and my family have christened “dating.” I faced it all the time. Day and night readers pester, “Are you seeing somebody?” and “Just get out there and date him!”

“Ugh, and double ugh.” I reply, smiling ear to ear. “There’s nothing to date!”

“You’re as ridiculous as you are hilarious,” they reply. “How would you know, you haven’t seen Friday Night Magic in a year!”

Thankfully, that’s my friend The One-And-Only (hehe) Patty Feldman. She sets the best ideas directly to my core 99% of the time. Loved ones you can trust to offer perspective. Can’t argue with that, and I thank her for it.

Back to the point of this post. As I browsed from more than three hundred outfits (hah) and desirable, honest singles for my first Great Expectations date, I realized something real. For years, I hadn’t held the greatest of figurative great expectations for dating in the serendipitous path of being alive. Being single isn’t so bad, only if you use the freedom to date. Holding great expectations does wonders for those who believe.

My Parents Loving Care for Each Other, Good Example for Today’s Couples

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

My parents have been married for 34 years know, hard to believe since it only seems like yesterday they were very young. They were married after only two years of dating and getting to know each other they got married and like most other couples they had a rough start not emotionally but economically, I remember thing s being tough as a kid when it came to material stuff and food, but really I never remember seeing them worried about it, they both worked hard and really made sure that us their three kids had everything that was needed to live a happy and healthy childhood. As an adult, I love to hang out with them, they are inseparable, where ever one goes the other one follows, they cannot take a step away from each other, they truly enjoy being around each other at all times, and are happy about it. They only have one car so that they always drive together wherever they go, but they both make sure to keep the other one happy and on each others priority, my mom will cook his favorite dishes a couple of times a week and have all his laundry ready to go, nicely ironed. And my dad in return, takes her out to dinner a couple of times a week, takes care of the yard, and is really up to whatever she wants to do, like working out or going walking around the neighborhood right after she takes her Acceletrim to help her drop the excess weight she has been putting on. I only hope that lots of couple were like them, it would make it a much happier world.

Cash Gifting Is a Money Making Resource

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

Is cash gifting legal? Of course it is, everyone legally has a right to give money to someone else if they want too, and of course anyone has a right to accept it as well. In fact, according to the tax codes, any cash gift under $11,000 is a tax free gift as long as it is not repeated by the same person. For example, Tom gives Dan 10K, then Fred gives Dan 10K, does Dan have to report 20K of income? No he does not. How do I know? Because I read the information provided by a cash gifting expert and learned just about everything that I needed to know about this home money making resource (and you should too.).

Cash gifting has been a source of income for many people over the last few years. While some are leery, and understandably so, about any online or “free” money making opportunity, cash gifting is truly a legal way to make money from home. Is it really free? Of course not and anyone who tells you it is, is actually lying. In order to get involved with cash gifting a cash gifting expert will tell you exactly how much money out of pocket that you need. Most programs start at $500, and while that may seem like a lot, if you think about the returns on that money, it is not too bad.

Learn to Do What Winners Do But Others Will Not

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

If you want to be a winner you have to be prepared to develop a certain personal trait which others will not.

Are you prepared to do more to receive more? Or are you like most people who want consistently to do less and less, yet are mistakenly expecting more in return.

The notion of doing less to get more is a furphy. Oh, you can dream about winning and long for success as much as you like but it won’t happen – not without the magic ingredients.

It is a universal law that in order to attract more into your life you have to render more service. Only by helping other people get what they want can you ever expect to get what you want. Confused? Let me explain:

Apart from having a definite purpose in life, that is, clearly defined goals, you must be prepared to work hard and never give up.

Token efforts give token rewards. Massive efforts create massive rewards. A massive effort requires one powerful personal trait – persistence.

Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President of the United States of America, had this to say about persistence:

“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent
The slogan Press On
has solved, and always will solve, the problems of the human race”.

To illustrate the power of persistence you might like to read a short book that I enjoyed, for the first time, in 1993. It was written by Peter B Kyne way back in 1921, yet the story it tells holds just as true today as it did in the year it was written. The book is called The Go-Getter.

Kyne tells the story of one Bill Peck who went to extraordinary lengths to procure a certain blue vase. It is an endearing story which will take less than an hour of your time to read. Although it is a very old book, and may be difficult to get, you should be able to track it down using its unique identifier number, ISBN : 0-03-031400-3.

On the subject of persistence I am reminded of another story I read. It concerned a man standing before a concert violinist who was practicing with his instrument. The man was amazed. The violinist was so brilliant that he could almost make the violin talk. Eventually, the violinist stopped playing. He looked at the man and said: “Can I help you sir?” The other man said: “The way you play that violin is wonderful. I would be prepared to give up my whole life just to be able to play like that!” The violinist smiled at the man and said: “Sir, I did!”

Persistence and determination drove people like Walt Disney and Colonel Harland Sanders and Thomas Edison and Henry Ford and Mother Teresa and countless thousands of others to their own unique achievements.

Set yourself a goal. Get busy. Keep trying. Make things happen.

If you believe in what you are doing and it will help others, keep at it! Keep on keeping on. Use your persistence to join the ranks of those who succeed.

Winners persist – they just keep on going long after others give up.
