The numbers of Gouldian Finches have weakened rather dramatically during the 20th century. Their habitat has been reduced or altered. Early research indicated a parasite called air sac mite, was responsible for the decline of the Gouldian. However, this idea has been ruled out. In general, The Lady Gouldian Finch is susceptible to diseases and viral infections. Their beautiful colors mean that they are easily eaten by predatory animals. Fires are listed as the #1 threat to the natural populations. The total number of Gouldian finches all told is not low, however, because they are among the most popular pet birds, and are bred in captivity for the pet trade.

Actions have been taken and are underway to implement a recovery plan to recover and conserve its natural habitats, such as building protective fencing to prevent damage by cattle. Attempts at reintroduction have so far proved unsuccessful; it was also suggested to develop management guidelines for land-holders about appropriate land management, promoting the recovery program and Gouldian Finche conservation.

Although often bred in a colony in captivity, in the wild The Lady Gouldian Finch is not a settlement bird. However, out of the mating season it gathers in flocks often a mixed flock consisting of Longtail Finches, Masked Finches and Gouldians. This is probably a defence against predation. Flocks used to consist of up to 1000″2000 individuals. During the breeding season they are usually found on rough scree slopes where vegetation is sparse. In the dry season they are more nomadic and will move to wherever there is food and water.

Cancer of the mesothelium is a rare cancer of the tissue that lines the body’s inner organs. Around two thousand new cases are pinpointed every year in the whole United States. Out of these, almost75 percent of cases affect the sac around the lungs, named the pleura. This is known as pleural mesothelioma. In around ten to twenty percent of occurrences, mesothelioma cancer could affect the tissue that envelopes visceral organs, named the peritoneal membrane, resulting in what is then referred to as peritoneal mesothelioma.

Introduction to asbestos is absolutely the overwhelming influencing factor for this uncommon sickness. After asbestos exposure, the time to development of the mesothelioma disease could be twenty to forty years. Due to job related introduction, mesothelioma is almost 3 times more likely in males, than in women. Due to the mass of cases moves upward with age, there are about ten times more instances in the men more than age 64 than in the men in their thirties.

Having Cancer of the mesothelium is a grave sickness, that, at the current moment, has a very bad percentage of overall continuance. Nonetheless, if it is diagnosed soon, care are then available that will seriously stretch the patient’s life. All new approaches continue to be and are being promoted through the use of clinical trials.
