Wednesday, March 24th, 2010Tips For Windows Boot
There are Windows tips which require specialized software such as registry cleaner so that a user comes out of the process alive. While others can easily be done with the help of tools provided by Windows.
Before starting to follow the tips in the given list, youll certainly want to ensure that you can revert to your current position. In case things don’t happen accordingly. For this, it is very essential to set a System Restore Point.
Let us begin with simple things.
First decide whether you need those fonts installed by various programs you in use. If you dont need all of them, then delete un-used fonts.
A free font manager can assist you in performing this task.
Some other programs start up every time your system starts.
Welcoming antivirus software, firewall, etc. are some of them.
But other applications come under a yourself category. The reason for keeping them in the yourself category is that you want these applications always available ready for use instead of starting them.
Applications like iTunes, Skype, an instant messenger service, webcam software and Adobe Acrobat reader update service as well as a keylogger installed by you to check the naughty activities of your kids.
You may prefer that these applications will always remain available for use.
Some of the applications could be seen at the bottom of the screen near the clock. Others could be seen only upon checking the Task Manager.
However, you can check or remove them from the system by using the msconfig program that comes with Windows. You will get to see the list of autoloading applications through Startup tab. In fact, the autoloading applications become active every time the computer boots up.
However, the major problem of Msconfig is that it never gives detailed information. Thus, you need to do detailed research in order to know whether the programs listed by it are must-have or just nice-to-have.
Next, there is the Windows Registry.
It serves as a dumping ground and storage area by all the programs.
Windows Registry appears to store in everything.
Usually it is the place that stores recently opened files on your menus. It also stores your favorite applications’ size and startup position. As having excessive fonts retards the systems loading, similar is the effect of having excessive stuff in registry which is no longer in use and prevents you from having a fast XP .
Even though it is feasible to clean up Windows registry through built-in Regedit program (similar steps are to be followed as in case of Msconfig), you need great tolerance level. In case anything goes wrong, Windows working may get disrupted or it may even stop to work. So it is advisable to leave this job for the software.
