On one hand this is a good thing, it allows for those with skills in other areas to excel, even if they have a less than perfect poker face. On the other hand it deters those who pride themselves on reading opponents from wanting to play when no reads are available to them.

This is because there always has to be a big blind bet, and the player next to the immediate left of the current big blind cannot be excused from paying the big blind in the next hand. This situation arises when the poker online player who was in the big blind is eliminated from the tournament. The player to the immediate left of that seat is scheduled to be big blind next, and the eliminated player would have been small blind. The small blind position is not automatically given to the next player on the left, who is supposed to be big blind. Instead, the empty seat is designated a “dead small blind.”

The same applies to the button seat. In the scenario described above, with a big blind and a dead small, the blind position moves to the left as per usual, with the previous big blind now paying the small. The seat where the player was eliminated is now the button seat, and it is designated a “dead button” in order to preserve the order of the blinds progression around the casino online table.

Looking at the numbers, if the main tournament is $10,000, and the satellite is $1000, a player could feasibly enter a $10,000 tournament just be paying $1000.
