Environmental Heating Stoves

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

One of the main criticisms that people make of heating stoves in general and pellet stoves specifically is that they lack the environmentally friendly nature that is needed in today’s world in order to combat phenomena that are part of a large potentially disastrous shift in climate. This criticism comes mostly from the environmentalist circles and is easily refuted. Leaving aside for the moment that these stoves are alternatives to heating methods that utilize either oil or natural gas and are therefore competing with the very same fossil fuels these same environmentalists rail against, there are still companies out there that attempt to manufacture these stoves in a way that is reasonably friendly to the environment. A good example of such a company would be Enviro Stoves, which is a Canadian company based in British Columbia. The stoves made by Enviro (a subsidiary of Sherwood Industries) are impressive not only because they heat with pellets at the same effectiveness as stoves manufactured by other companies, but also because they do it in a way that respects the environment. It is difficult in today’s world to blend affordability, reality and ecology, but Sherwood Industries has done a decent job of that with these stoves. Until a better and cleaner technology comes along that is also affordable, these types of stoves might be good options.
