How to be an Impact Player

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

As a high school softball coach, I believe every player can be an “impact player”. You may be thinking how can that be? Not everyone is an all-star. Not everyone is an ace pitcher or an All-State running back. That’s true. But every player has a role. Every player contributes in some way. Every player should have an “impact” on the team.

But what about the “junk” players?

I know for a fact that even the weakest players on a team can positively affect teammates. While they may never get the game winning hit or the basket at the buzzer, they still contribute to the team’s success. How is that? Most times their contribution is hard work and a positive attitude. Wouldn’t you agree that back-up players that work hard in practice push the starters in front of them? They keep starters on their toes and keep them performing at an optimal level. Starters can get discouraged during a game. A positive attitude on the bench helps them bounce back faster and get back on track mentally. A starting line-up can get deflated and stay that way without a bench to support them and pick them back up. That’s why I believe that every player is essential. Everyone’s role is important and vital to the success of the team, no matter how big or how small.

Where do I start?

First, figure out what it is that you contribute to the team. It doesn’t always have to be an “on the field” or “on the court” thing. But before you can go any further you need to identify one way you contribute most to your team. Once you do that, set out to be the best on your team at that one thing. This doesn’t mean that you slack in other areas, but make it a point to be the “team leader” in at least this one area.

Start small if you have to. It can be as simple as being the best in attendance or being the best at showing up on time every day. Or you can challenge yourself and decide you’re going to lead the team in a certain statistic (i.e. rebounds, scoring, receiving, batting average, etc). Choose something and make it a focus when you train. Again, don’t let down in other areas, but train to be the best at something. Then feel free to add to it, revise it, or modify it as the season goes on. You may find that you’re more of an “impact” player than you thought. You may not always get your name in the paper. You many not have DI schools knocking on your door, but your team wouldn’t be the same without you.

Your Choice

Just like anything else in life, you have a choice. You can choose to be an impact player and make a difference on your team. Or you can be the “weak link” on the team that everyone else has to “make up” for. The choice is yours. Choose to be an impact player.

Sunglasses : The Truth – Are They Really Neccessary ?

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Wearing sunglasses has in the past been more of a fashion statement than a necessity. Obviously they were also worn to help block out the glaring sun. But in this day and age things have changed so much that even our children and yes our pets are wearing sunglasses.

Not only has the fashion industry surged forward with sunglasses as a major accessory to our clothes but the medical field has also pushed the wearing of sunglasses to an all time high. This has given manufacturers a major boost leading to an almost over population of these types of glasses. You will find them almost everywhere from low budget prices to exorbitant prices.

Research has shown that the sun is getting hotter and UV rays are becoming quite dangerous to our skin and our eyes. It is very important to wear sunscreen for your skin and protective glasses for your eyes. Make sure that when you buy sunscreen you buy a high UV rating and that goes with your sunglasses. Always buy ones with the maximum protection level.

This doesn’t mean that you will have to pay ridiculously high prices for maximum protection because there are many companies that sell sunglasses with this protection for very affordable prices. You just need to look around. Depending on you budget you can go as low as $5.00 up to $100.s of dollars. It really is up to you and your affordability.

For some people having designer glasses is very important and to others it doesn’t matter as long as they do the job and still look good then that’s ok also. What I do know is that you will never run short of options and the best way to find what you want is by shopping online. Not only will you find every type of brand name, style and protection level, you will also be able to find great discounts.

So, the next time you are looking for a pair of sunglasses remember to not only look at what styles are in fashion but also make sure you look for a maximum protection level to look after those all-important eyes.

Free Traffic Course – Day 1

Monday, December 29th, 2008

Isn’t online a magical invention? Surely it is, just imagine how many people can share their thoughts or open their businesses or run any kind of activity through their personal web sites. Online gives a huge worldwide potential to any idea converted into a web site.

But, even the most perfect web site can be dead. Hope you did not face it with your website, but online experience shows that you can pay for making the fanciest web design in the world, you can have amazing copywriting on the website, you can have the cheapest prices for your product or service – all this will be useless if your website does not get TARGETED traffic.

It is super important to underline “TARGETED” web site traffic. When an online surfer looks for gasoline discount tickets and gets to the web site that sells pot flowers, will this surfer buy the pot flowers? Hardly! The surfer will close the web site in about 2 seconds after web browser opened it.

That is why, if you are online, if you have a web site – fight for the targeted traffic only. The strategy below will help you to understand how.

1. Define and scale your niche.

Niche is the specifics of your web site. Any product or service on the web site belongs to a certain niche. For example, the web sites that sell cars online belong to car selling niche. This niche can be split into different sub niches: car insurance selling niche, car tire selling niche, car loans selling niche.

You see that these niches are very close in some aspects to each other. Some of them are bigger, others may be smaller. But there is one thing which unites all these niches – their targeted car audience.

So, before starting to gather targeted traffic to your web site, think it over: do you really know what niche your web site belongs to?

- Think what type of clients might be interested in purchasing/using your product or service.

- Think what products or services related to your web site can be interesting to your clients – answering this question you will find your neighbor niches (and soon you will learn how to profit from them too).

- Think what products and services you can add to your web site and get a better selling contact with potential clients of your web site. Choose the offers that do not need much time and money, add something useful and dig your niche deeper.

If you have done this job honestly, you surely have discovered more potential about your niche. Now you are ready to attract targeted traffic to your web site.

2. Tools for getting targeted traffic to web site.

If you are online, you already know what a huge niche is the market of traffic building tools. But this market has some typical traps. Make sure you know them to avoid in future:

- Many traffic-building tools work only with one aspect of attracting traffic to web site. This usually gives poor results and low quality of traffic. Imagine that you learn swimming and your coach told you how to use your hands only. Perhaps you will swim, but this will be such a hard task.

So, do not rely much upon the tools that work with one-two aspects of gathering traffic.

- Some of traffic-building tools are made to flood your web site with traffic. But it will be an absolutely non-targeted traffic. For example, some programs give credits when their users scroll the web sites. But they just scroll and pay no attention to what is on the web site. The users of these programs have to scroll hundreds of web site to get many credit points. Will you believe that your web site will be so out-of-the-kind to attract the attention of a tired ‘clicker’? Would you venture to build your online business on such clients? No! Never!!

- Finally, some traffic-building tools are cheating people. These are few, but still the exist in online. You pay for traffic, they use special devices to generate false traffic from different IPs. But this is not traffic at all, computer programs generate it and flood web site with it. This is a crime, a rare one, but it exists on the Internet, so be aware.

The typical traffic-building traps are over. Now come the strategies that will help you to build a really targeted traffic to the web site.

SAFE AND GUARANTEED TOOLS FOR GENERATING TARGETED TRAFFIC

It will be wise to start with Google AdWords. Yes, they are coslty. Yes, the prices in niches for good keywords are always rising. But Google gives targeted traffic.

Those who submit the keyword from your niche into search engine are really motivated to find something about this niche. If you pay for clients who type into search window “traffic tools” and sell traffic tools on your website, surely Google will send you targeted visitors.

But be ready to spend much on Google AdWords: your online advertising budget for good keywords should be huge.

Are there free ways to get targeted traffic? Most of Internet marketers say “NO”. But they use special tools, scripts and software that automate the gathering of targeted web traffic. And their schemes work, otherwise how could Mark Joyner, John Reese, Corey Rudl (dearly missed by millions today) become millionaires on Internet marketing.

Their schemes are not absolutely free. The pay for certain scripts that do all the job for them, but this is one-time payment. With Google you will pay every day.

That is why, if you think about future expenses and still want to get targeted traffic, you should use the traffic building tools that have proven their effectivity in online business activity.

Now these tools (and fresh ones) are integrated into one system that automates the gathering of targeted web site traffic to any web site.

Cisco Certification: CCNA Certifcation FAQ

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

When you start your CCNA studies, a lot of questions come to mind! Here are the five most common questions CCNA candidates have, answered by Chris Bryant, CCIE #12933.

Q. What exams do I have to take to get my CCNA?

A. The CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) certification offers two paths. You can take the one-exam path by taking the 640-801 CCNA Composite exam. If you want to break it up into two parts, you can take the Introduction To Cisco Networking Technologies (INTRO 640-821) and the Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devcies (ICND 640-811) exams.

Q. Chris, which path do you recommend?

A. I generally recommend the two-exam path, particularly for those CCNA candidates that haven’t taken a Cisco exam before. The Intro exam offers you a little more time and allows you to become comfortable with the Cisco exam engine, particularly the simulator questions. Let’s face it, the CCNA single exam covers a lot of material, from basic networking to OSPF to router on a stick. Most candidates are better off breaking this huge amount of material into two distinct parts.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had plenty of students and customers pass the CCNA composite. It can be done!

Q. Do I have to recertify my CCNA, or is it mine forever after I pass?

A. One way Cisco protects the value of its certifications is to enforce strict recertification policies. When you earn your CCNA, you must recertify within three years.

Q. How do I recertify my CCNA?

A. There is a lot of confusion out there on this question. The latest information from Cisco is that you recertify your CCNA by doing any of the following three things:

1. Pass the current CCNA Composite or ICND exam.

2. Pass any 642-level professional level exam or any Cisco Qualified Specialist exam, not including Sales Specialist exams.

3. Pass any CCIE written exam.

Q. How do I register for the CCNA exam?

A. You can take the CCNA exam at any Prometric or VUE testing center. To find a Prometric testing center near you and register online, visit www.2test.com . For a VUE site, register at www.vue.com .

Q. Can you give me a braindump for the exam?

A. Boy, do you have the wrong guy! :)

To your success,

A Choose Up Game – One of My Best Games

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

A Choose Up Game – One of My Best Games

The teams were picked and the line ups were announced. I was batting third. I could not wait to hit. Hitting to me was like eating for a fat man with a tape worm. I lived for the experience. I knew even before I batted that I would get a hit. I was so young and cocky! After the first two guys on my team made outs, I strolled up to the plate, as confident as Babe Ruth – pointing to center field in the 1934 World Series when he called his famous home run. Digging in and sneering at Donnie, I was determined to smack that pill. First pitch was a high and tight fastball. .
I got out of the batter’s box and stared again at Donnie. I was thinking fastball for his next offering. I was right. The ball came in so big so round so slow. I could see the red seams on the ball. Boom! I connected on that real sweet spot on the bat.

All batters love that sound. That crack that sounds so solid. Pitchers hang their heads when they hear that noise. It’s like the strike of chalk on a backboard, they hate it. The ball jumped off my bat and sailed over the left and centerfielder’s heads. It was a shot and a half. As I rounded the bases I got a glimpse of Mr. Ginsburg, the high school coach, watching me round the bases. This was Major League stuff.

A few innings later…..
Gazing at Donnie, I thought how much more determined he looked, as I went to bat for the second time. His brow was crimped and his eyes were staring. With a runner on first he was pitching from the stretch. His leg glided toward home his arm raised high, he flung the ball at me. I do not know what kind of pitch he threw. What I do know is that I hit a rocket about 15 feet over the third baseman’s head down the left field line. As the ball rolled and rolled I scampered around the bases as if I was being chased by some animal. I saw home plate in my head as I ran. And as I rounded second base I again saw Coach Ginsburg now watching the outfielders race after the ball. I hit third base with authority and sped home for my second round tripper in two at bats. My teammates congratulated me. The stands were buzzing again. I remember my friends jumping up and down with big smiles on their faces.
I felt wonderful. Two times to bat. Two home runs, against our high school star pitcher. This game was a fantasy baseball dream come true.

I was Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Willie Mays all rolled in to one that day.

Is Al Michaels Still the Best NFL Play-by-Play Announcer?

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

When ABC “traded” Al Michaels to NBC this off-season to be their number one play-by-play announcer for their new Sunday night NFL football package, it became clear that he is still perceived to be the best play-by-play announcer in the business. However, is that perception still a reality?

Michaels began his career back in 1986 on ABC’s Monday Night Football, where he remained until switching to NBC for the 2006 season. While at ABC, Michaels was part of several broadcast teams including the likes of Dan Dierdorf and Frank Gifford, Boomer Esiason, Dennis Miller and Dan Fouts, and most recently John Madden. Despite the frequent changes, Michaels always remained because of his innate ability to convey an array of information to the casual viewer.

With NBC’s recent signing of Michaels and John Madden to man their Sunday Night NFL booth, it shows that Michaels is still the most sought after announcer in the business. NBC decided to woo Michaels over Fox and CBS lead play-by-play announcers Joe Buck and Jim Nantz respectively, as well as veterans Dick Enberg and Mike Patrick, and newcomers Kevin Harlan and Gus Johnson..

The amazing thing about Michaels (and probably the reason why NBC chose him) is that he is nearly flawless. He rarely misses a call, is always up to date with the latest news, knows the rules, and adds just enough humor. His only real “flaw” may be his desire to mix in references to the point spread and over/under of games despite the fact that the NFL would rather he not.

Of those mentioned above, Buck, Harlan and Johnson have talent but are still too raw, while Enberg is on the tail end of his career. Both Jim Nantz and Mike Patrick can certainly make their cases as the best play-by-play announcer in the sport.

Nantz (paired with Phil Simms) likely was not targeted because of his value to CBS as a college basketball announcer. I doubt that CBS would likely let him go, at least not without a fight. Michaels on the other hand, did not have an NFL job with ABC after MNF moved to ESPN. His only job on ABC was with the NBA, something he wasn’t particularly good at.

With Sunday Night Football moving to NBC, Mike Patrick was left out of the NFL, which is an absolute travesty. Patrick, who will now work College Football for ESPN, handled the ESPN Sunday Night booth with Joe Theisman and Paul Maguire with phenomenal skill. Theisman and Maguire would often engage in pointless arguments and make erroneous statements, and Patrick was able to pull it all together into a somewhat presentable booth. His abilities were most recognizable when he missed time in the 2004 season and was replaced by Pat Summerall for a few games. Those broadcasts were absolutely unwatchable. It is likely that he wasn’t considered for the NBC job because he didn’t come packaged with a respectable partner (like Michaels does with Madden) and because he doesn’t have the name recognition of Michaels. Both reasons are understandable, but make no mistake his skills are on par with Michaels.

In an industry with remarkable turnover and constant competition, Michaels has remained at the top of his field for nearly twenty years, as evidenced by his new deal with NBC. This is a testament to his dedication and work ethic in an extremely difficult and demanding industry.

A Quick Introduction to Fantasy Professional Football

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

Whether you already know every professional football team and player like the back of your hand, or you just want to learn enough to look less blank when conversing with friends, family or coworkers, fantasy football can enhance your NFL viewing experience.

As a lottery commercial says, “you have to be in it to win it”. In order to join the fun, you have to pick a “host”, select your preferred NFL players, and join or start a league.

You have a ton of options when considering where to host a fantasy football team. Some of the most commonly played “hosts” include CBS Sportsline.com, SportingNews.com, YahooSports Fantasy Football and CDM Fantasy Sports.

Depending on the host and league, you’ll play one of several formats. One requires an upfront payment to enter your league, but doesn’t charge you for players you pick up during the season from a free agent or “waiver” pool. Generally, the higher you pay as your upfront fee, the larger your prize if you win your league for the season.

The second format is free to join, but will cost you for most or all players you claim off waivers or as free agents after the initial draft period ends. Generally, trades with other players are free of charge. Be careful, though! Those trades can be costly in another way to you if you give away too much to get that must-have player.

The most common formats allow you a team made up of one or more quarterbacks, one or more running backs, one or more wide receivers, one or more tight ends and one or more defense/special teams (DST) units. Depending on the league, you may play all of your players at once or pick some players as “starters” and assign others as “reserves”. Only your active players (starters} earn you points for that week. You get points for their league-defined accomplishments each week. What and how much your team will score will vary from league to league.

Now you need players on your team, so it is time for you to “draft” some football players. Using your basic understanding of football, and drawing on your NFL savvy, or some free or paid information sources to review, you’ll rank real NFL players before your league draft. You may also be able to use the players as “pre-ranked” by your host.

You’ll also need to decide whether you want the excitement and time commitment of a live draft, or the relative ease and less time offered by an automated draft. If you are a beginner, the automated draft is highly recommended.

During the season, there are “BYE” weeks, during which an NFL team and its players get the week off to recharge. Real players also can be injured, so you lose their productivity. On the other hand, you and your team don’t get any time off, so you’ll probably have to make trades and perform waiver wire moves to ensure that you have a full, strong team playing every week.

Those are the basics. Now, it is up to you to apply your special knowledge, instinct or hunches, and “Win one for the Gipper”. Before your draft, you might want to challenge friends, family members or co-workers who have similar skills to yours to join your league. Some healthy competition can make your fantasy football experience even more enjoyable.

As with any game, keep in mind that it is only a game. You will not become rich or popular dependent upon how well you play. It is mostly purely entertainment. If you keep this in mind and don’t take yourself or the game too seriously, you will have a great time. It is a great game and you should have no trouble finding others with your passion and skill level. Have fun and good luck!

What are Pocket Bikes?

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

Pocket bikes are so much fun. They are designed in a class and style of a mini motorcycle. They are well built with an aluminum or steel frame and will be a fun and sleek style of bike. They are not incredibly fast, but will have speed enough to get over hills and have a lot of fun. It will depend on the size and weight of the person riding the pocket bike to decide how fast it goes. There is lots of fun to be had and so much to learn when you get one of these bikes.

They are smaller in size and can be enjoyed by many different people. A pocket bike is going to give the same feeling as a motorcycle only a lot smaller and a little slower. Pocket bikes are becoming a large trend in the bike world today. There are so many dealers and competitors out there that you can choose from the ones that you want with no problem. It is always a good idea to do some research so that you find the perfect bike for you and your needs.

These pocket bikes can be ran on gas or by electricity. When you get one that is powered by gasoline, you will find that they are cheap to run because the take very little gas at all. These are going to be the faster of the two different kinds of bikes. Because they are run on gas, they will reach higher speeds and be easier to get around on.

The gas pocket bikes are going to be just as much fun for anyone to have. They are ran on battery that you need to have charged from time to time. The bikes will come with their own charger and when the battery dies, you simply put them on charge over night. These bikes are cheaper to buy than the gas powered ones, but you are going to find that these are just as much fun to ride. The electric ones are better to have for children because they do not reach as high of speeds as the gas powered pocket bikes do.

Pocket bikes can be found in many stores. You can find them in department stores or in some of the motorcycle shops as well. It will depend on the type and the amount of money that you want to spend on your pocket bike. It is going to be so much fun shopping for the perfect bike for you.

You will see that you should do a lot of research before you purchase a pocket bike. Think about what you are going to use it for and who is if for. Think about the area in which you live and which one would be the better choice for you. Pocket bikes are so much fun and with a little knowledge, you can be safe and enjoy the ride even more.
