Improving Your Golf Score

November 30th, 2008

In all sports, it is essential that you warm up properly to attain the best performance. If you go to any professional or even amateur sporting event, you will see competing athletes doing pre-game warm-ups. Golfers, especially those in the professional level, are not different from them. When tour professionals are about to begin their first tee, they would have made full warm-ups to be able to make their best swings.

However, most amateurs have their “warm-ups” done by racing from their autos to the shop and check in, then dashing to their first tee, in just about five minutes. Most of the time, this is followed by an unsteady and inconsistent play for the first holes, ending up with another lackluster round. The result: Disappointing golf scores.

Here are some tips for you for improving your golf score.

* First, go to the golf course as early as possible. You need time in taking care of your matters in the shop, in using the restroom, changing clothes and shoes, among others. It is crucial that you do not feel pressured or rushed, allowing you to get warmed up at a relaxed pace. Remember that your warm-up time sets your mood and tempo throughout the day, so just relax and move slowly. A minimum of an hour or two before you begin hitting your first tee would probably help you get a nice and relaxed warm-up.

* Start your warm-up routine at the putting green. By spending some time on warming up on the green, you will be ready for the speed of the greens. More importantly, you will start up your day with a nice, deliberate, and smooth tempo.

* Spend about 10 minutes or so trying to hit the chips around the green using a tee as your target. First test the greens’ firmness to see how much or less the golf ball will roll. In general, the ball tends to move more on hard greens than the soft greens. In addition, there are various kinds of rough which make the ball move differently when it touches the green. Spending some time around the green helps you to have some thoughts on choosing the great greenside shots during your round, and also, the spots where you are landing the golf ball on the putting surface.

Remember: If you do not get enough warm-up, you should not expect to have an optimal performance, and consequently, a good golf score.

What to Look for when Buying a Snowboard

November 28th, 2008

1. Height

There are 3 different heights of snowboards; short, medium and long. A short board will come somewhere between you’re collar bone and you’re chin. Short snowboards are easy to ride on; so many people prefer them for learning on. Short snowboards are also great for people who like to do a lot of tricks. A medium board will be anywhere between you’re chin and you’re nose. Intermediate riders prefer medium boards, but so do certain advanced riders who like to ride on different types of terrain. Long boards will be from eye level to above you’re head and are used by advanced riders who are looking to get a lot of high speed carving. Long boards are excellent for deep powder snow and mountains.

2. Width

The width of you’re snowboard will relate directly to the size of you’re feet. If you’re feet are long you will need and wide snowboard, if you’re feet are small you will need a narrower one. When standing on a board, you’re feet should meet the edge of the bored or you’re toes should only hang slightly over. If you’re feet are hanging off you’re bored, you risk the chance of you’re boot catching on the snow while you ride. As well, if you’re feet are much too small for you’re board, you are not going to be able to get the amount of control you need to direct you’re board. Snowboards and Gear

3. Type of snowboard

Before you purchase a snowboard you will want to decide which type of board is right for you. There are three types of snowboards, which are freestyle, free ride and free carve. Freestyle is the most popular type of board today. Freestyle boards are great for doing jumps, tricks, rails and half pipes. A freestyle board is relatively short, and made for soft boots who are designed specifically for doing tricks; most boarding competitions are based around the freestyle board. A free ride board is perfect for people who like open terrain such as the mountains, trees and powder shoots. Free riding is where the pros show what they are really made of. Free ride boards are generally longer than freestyle boards, but they also use a soft boot. If you’re not sure what kind of boarding you prefer or if you like doing everything, this is a great, versatile board for you. Free carve boards are often overlooked in the world of snowboarding. Specifically made for speed and carving, these boards use a hard boot and a long stiff board. Used on packed snow, there is generally little or no jumping involved in this style of boarding. This is a popular Olympic sport in which the riders swing around flags or poles.

The Rise and Fall of The Mighty Wizards of Oz

November 27th, 2008

After a decade of dominance, the Australian team seems to be on the wane. The mighty ‘Invincibles’ now suddenly seem very much human and vulnerable. The aggressive and care-a-damn attitude has given way to a more subdued approach. Well, this had to happen.

The average Australian cricketer which we used to see was an aggressive go-getter who used to wear his attitude on his sleeve and was proud to wear the baggy green cap. He believed in winning and blowing the opposition away. This was the quality which was well and truly inculcated by the captains of the Australian team; Mark Talyor, Steve ‘Conqueror’ Waugh and Ricky Ponting. The Australian dominance which started in style on Australia’s tour of West Indies flagged off Australia’s journey to being the most feared outfit in world cricket. Boasting of world-class players like Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath and the Waugh brothers, what followed was wins, wins and more wins. The past 10 years saw some fine exhibition of ruthless cricket, pulling off unbelievable wins and winning the 1999 and 2003 World Cup in spectacular fashion.

England, however, seem to be the flavour of the season. Having humbled the world champions on occasions more than one, the present England team seems to have done enough to displace Australia as the number one team in cricket. The England players vis–vis the Aussies are young, in fine nick and of course, talented. On the contrary, Australia arrived in England with many of its key players out of form, and some picking injuries later. The Australians seem to be a shadow of their former self with the batting scratchy, fielding sloppy and bowling pedestrian. One of the most eye-catching moments were on the penultimate day of the third test when Australia, who in the words of Steve Waugh do not believe in a draw, batted tooth and nail to save the day. Whatever the outcome of the series, one thing is clear that Australia are no longer the supreme force in cricket.

What remains to be seen is whether the ageing Australians will recover from their sudden slump and become once the again the feared, ruthless side they once were.

How To Find The Best Places In The World To Visit For Kneeboarding

November 25th, 2008

Surfing is one of the most popular sports today especially to those who live near the shoreline. The people who are involved in surfing get enjoyment and relaxation in this very adventurous sport.

Surfing is a sport where the enthusiasts glide toward the shore on a breaking wave of sea water. Surfers usually use specially designed wooden or synthetic boards that are lightweight and allow the user for greater maneuverability.

While surfing is very popular, many are still ignorant to a sport very much common to surfing, knee boarding.

Knee boarding is very similar to surfing. It is a discipline where the user also uses a wooden or synthetic board that is known as a kneeboard - the rider paddles on his belly against the wave.

The popularity of knee boarding increased when the surf movie ‘Crystal Voyager’ was released by a prominent Californian kneeboard rider, George Greenough. After that, most surfers tried knee boarding and became indulged in the game.

Knee boarding requires a water current just like in surfing. It requires waves that are big and waves where the rider can go into. Only few places can offer this special requirement of knee boarding.

One of the best places for knee boarding is the sea water of Honduras. One of the best in this country is the Roatan Island. The island was the setting of popular TV reality program of Fox, ‘Temptation Island 3′.

Roatan Island is one of those islands that is not highly populated and with only few tourists. It is a tropical island of pristine beaches, uncrowded by visitors. Another thing about the island is that it is budget friendly and you can always find place where you can lay your head and body in a minimal price.

Costa Rica is another destination for knee boarding - a country that offers breathtaking knee boarding spots that you can never resist. Most of the beaches of Costa Rica are of serene beauty and with the type of wave required for good keeboarding. Knee boarders will definitely like the place for it is unique and one of a kind.

For those that want their knee boarding to be an experience of a lifetime, Maldives is the place where they should be. Maldives is a tropical island in the south of Asia, where you can find white beaches, crystal clear sea water and virgin shoreline. Maldives offers the knee board riders unbelievable waves.

Maldives make your dream come true. It is the place for discerning kneeboard riders. It is the ultimate destination to those that are already tired of the usual knee boarding places of California that are too much crowded and very much populated.

For those who want a place that is full of beautiful, sexy babes, Hawaii is the best for you. Hawaii has different locations for knee boarding. Its shoreline offers not just waves where you can get along and do kneeboard riding, but it also offers something that will feed your eyes!

If kneeboard riders are looking for the newest and hottest place for the sport, the Philippines is the place for you. Philippines is one of those knee boarding places that is increasing its popularity as one of the best places for the sport. The country offer virgin shoreline and waves you have never seen. The island wil not just feed your enthusiasm for kneeboard riding, but also feed your self for nature adventures.

Knee boarding is a sport that is very precise when it comes to location. These best places are very much applicable for the sport and will make your adventure an experience of a lifetime.

That’s Entertainment!

November 24th, 2008

Welcome to That’s Entertainment! In this issue, we’ll explore part one of a three-part serial - Audition Tips - Straight From the Source.

We spoke with Judy Thomas, production coordinator and artistic talent director with Walt Disney’s World on Ice, to learn more about the auditioning process. With seven shows currently rotating the world, Walt Disney’s World On Ice (WWOI) employs about 400 skaters, both men and women. If you’re interested in becoming one of the next recruits, read on. We’ll uncover the facts about what it takes to become a professional Disney performer.

6.0 Skate: What should interested skaters do to arrange an audition?

Judy Thomas: We ask that they send a videotape, resume and current photo [see below for address]. Some skaters will just phone, they know that the show’s coming into, say Boston area at Christmas, and they’ll call and enquire about the audition time and date. Throughout the year, we take names and phone numbers and then contact them when we have an established time and date, and call and let them know.

6.0: Who conducts the onsite auditions?

Judy: Performance directors with the line captains demonstrating.

6.0: What do you want to see on a video audition?

Judy: Well, what I ask first is that they introduce themselves, and just tell us a bit about themselves. It gives a little more in-person view to the video, and also maybe with regards to why they want to perform professionally with Disney on Ice. We request that they perform all elements within a practice session and perform those as though they’re performing in front of a house of 18,000 people. Then we ask that they include any competitive programs of their choice as well as any exhibition-type programs. Any time they’re able to include a program that’s entertaining and shows performing skills, it’s really appreciated.

6.0: What don’t you want to see?

Judy: I’d say it’s best to send a tape of your most current work as opposed to a competition four years ago. It’s interesting … you may receive a tape where someone’s falling, and some people think they should edit that out, but it’s the way they respond to that fall sometimes shows me exactly what I want to see. If they have the ability to get up and perform as if it never happened, that’s wonderful!

6.0: How many skaters do you hire each year?

Judy: It really depends on our turnover. The amount of auditions vary and it’s interesting because you can almost see the cycle ….In Toronto four years ago we may have had 45 auditions, where everyone was graduating that year … and that’s usually all the seniors in the club, and so you almost have to wait until the next generation of seniors grow up. So we audition in every city, I’d say we have several hundred auditions a year around the world. [It also depends on] how many shows we’re building.

6.0: How many shows are currently on the road?

Judy: We have seven shows — five domestic and two foreign tours. The one tour does Japan, Asia, Australia, and then we have a Europe tour, and then one of our domestic shows does part USA and part South America.

6.0: In your opinion, is 17 years of age old enough to travel with a show?

Judy: I think it really depends on the person and not everyone is old enough. During the audition process we try to determine a maturity level and a level of professionalism. We have a lot of skaters now that come to work with us after they’ve completed college, and they have that experience behind them, which really helps. I would say our average age is probably higher than 17 or 18, probably more like 21 or 22.

6.0: What should skaters wear during an audition?

Judy: Skating attire, both males and females, that allows movement, but not baggy or loose clothing. [We want to see] their body lines when their moving and artistically to see how they move. It is a job interview.

6.0: What “spots” are available?

Judy: Principal positions requiring strong dramatic skills along with the technical abilities for either solo work, or pair work, or ice dance. [Also] ensemble positions, understudy positions, step outs, acrobatic skills, precision skills.

6.0: Do most chorus skaters have to jump?

Judy: [Yes.] That’s changed quite a bit. The wonderful thing is that for talented skaters that really want that opportunity to skate, it’s there. Those requirements have elevated, each year they get more and more along with even more acting skills.

6.0: Do skaters need to obtain work permits?

Judy: No. Our company applies for, processes and takes care of all permits for all countries. [When providing information to legal representatives] it’s a lengthy process, probably even lengthier in the past year.

6.0: What type of compensation is offered?

Judy: It’s really based on so many factors. It includes benefits. We pay in U.S. dollars everywhere.

6.0: How do you decide what show to assign skaters to?

Judy: We would cast someone appropriately where their strengths would contribute to the most. You look for someone who genuinely has a passion for performing.

6.0: Why might you turn someone down?

Judy: I don’t know that we’ve ever done that. We encourage people to audition again. We respond to all auditions, first by letter acknowledging the audition and giving them all our contact information and then if there is anything indicating on their audition form that we’d like to see worked on, then we’ll give them specifics on that.

6.0: How long should skaters wait before auditioning again?

Judy: I would say if a show comes into your area again, and if we have not had an opening for you, if you’re still interested, please come in. Number one, it reinforces their enthusiasm for the job and also it gives another performance director a chance to see them.

6.0: Are they minimum height requirements?

Judy: No. Now with the creative parts of the show, the height is not [important]. We have a girl who is 5′ 10″ and a girl who is 4′ 9.5.

6.0: Is the six-pound weight range still in effect for skaters, and are Saturday morning weigh-ins still conducted?

Judy: Actually, we do an eight-pound. That probably has evolved really stressing healthy minds and healthy bodies. We have all looks. We no longer do weekly weigh-ins.

6.0: What do skaters pay in terms of “rent?”

Judy: Again, it’s all part of the benefit package.

6.0: Do you have anything to tell future Disney skaters?

Judy: The one thing that we offer is really the travel opportunity combined with the skating experience. We have people who have literally seen the world, so in that respect it’s been an education in itself.

We’d like to thank Judy Thomas for speaking with us. For more information about Disney On Ice, please send your skating resume and a current photo to Judy Thomas, 1313 17th Street East, Palmetto, FL 34221, USA, or call 941 349 4848/941 721 1234.

Top of the Mountain: The Masters, Augusta, GA

November 24th, 2008

Top of the Mountain: The Masters, Augusta, GA

If you’re a stockbroker, the center of the world is New York. If you are a commodities trader, it’s Chicago.

But if you’re a golfer, the center of the world is…a little further south.

“You actually feel it when you step onto the course” says Brian Montgomery, who has been to every Masters for the last decade. “It’s like being in an art museum or a history museumand if you really live for golf, this isn’t just church, it’s St. Peters Cathedral on Christmas Eve.”

For as those who have walked the course will tell you, there is no place like Augusta.

“It’s pristine, not like other tournaments, no paper, no advertising, just green everywhere and So perfect. I mean, you see it on TV, and you think, I could do that, then you see the course and you think: “Par Four?!? FOUR?!? That’s like a…NINE. And these guys come out and do it in four and it’s just amazing.”

Masters week is divided into two parts. The first three days are the practice rounds. This just gives the golfers a chance to relax, get their swings loose after a plane trip and plan a strategy for the course.

Said one recent attendee “I love the practice roundsThe players are out there and they’re just more relaxedthey are joking with the crowd, I’ve even seen people get pictures with players.”

But after the practice rounds end, the atmosphere changes. “On the first day, it’s just VERY serious. For most players this is the biggest event there ever was or will be, so every shot is a serious shot.”

“I live for this,” says Montgomery “I saw Crenshaw win the week after Harvey (Penick, his mentor) died, I saw Tiger Get his first, and it’s not just that history gets made here some years, it gets made here every year.” —————————————————————– ——

If You Are without a Girlfriend Then a Lovely Call Girl Will Probably Help

November 23rd, 2008

Being without a partner in the city where you happen upon couples in any bar and disco can be a sad feeling. I personally know of 4 without a girlfriend friends who go on dates each and every day and each day they are depressed because they are still without a partner. In London there are a hefty collection of spectacular escorts, these eye-opening escorts are the perfect offering to give yourself if you are not with a girl.

Working girls in London are tremendous and delightful and have a high education making them first-rate companions as well as wonderful lovers. The working girls in London are naturally more costly than anywhere else like Glasgow, the reason for this is the escorts tend to be of an improved class. Use Escort Agencies to have the best night in ever.

Escorts have been made fashionable with the television show Secret Diary with the beautiful Billie Piper. In the television series the escort call girl is made out to be glamorous and very rich and always looking amazing. Secret Diary is a top rated series in the United Kingdom and many boys have seen it and have now booked an escort. This has helped to fuel the increase in single males feeling much happier and excited about the choice of women a single boy has in London.

New Technologies in Camping Outdoor Clothing Enhance the Camping Experience

November 21st, 2008

Camping is an excellent way to explore and experience the outdoors. The weather needn’t be an obstacle to what sorts of climates and places you might trek to. Outdoor clothing has become incredibly innovative in its designs and features, allowing the adventurous at heart to know no limits. Following is information all outdoor enthusiasts should read before investing in outerwear.

Given so many choices it is necessary to do a little research before making your clothing purchase, this way you are only buying the pieces you will need, therefore essentially getting your money’s worth. The following suggestions should be helpful for any outdoor enthusiast. A popular term you will hear mentioned in today’s clothing features is waterproof-breathable technologies. This technology strives to keep liquid water (precipitation) out of the garment interiors, while allowing the moisture vapor (perspiration) to escape out of the wearer’s clothing.

There are three major waterproof-breathable technologies which are microporous laminates, microporous coatings and monolithic membranes. The microporous laminates contain millions of pores which allow for molecules of water vapor to pass out, but not allowing for water to enter. The microporous coatings act in the same way by letting water vapors pass out but not allowing vapor to enter. The monolithic membranes absorb moisture vapor directly into its structure, in turn heat from your body drives the moisture through the membrane towards the outer surface. The amazing thing about the monolithic membrane is that as you work harder the membrane absorbs and exhales more vapor.

One of the popular face fabrics for outdoor clothing of the past has been nylon; it has been a preferred fabric because of both its waterproof and breathable features and its abrasion resistance for rugged use. But today’s newly designed polyesters are closing the gap. Polyester is popular because it only absorbs about a tenth as much water as does nylon. This is wonderful as it keeps the inside surface of the garment warmer, while reducing the interior condensation. The great thing about the new polyesters is they are naturally repellent without having to use spray on repellents that eventually wash off.

Knowing about the popular fabrics used today and why they work is important in making some of your outdoor clothing selections, but if needing any clothing that will be used for cold or extremely cold conditions you will need to know what clothing insulations will best suit you and the conditions you might be facing. First off is down filling. Down filling has been around forever and is still one of the most popular choices. It is unbelievably light, compact and durable. It moulds to your body helping to keep you warm while absorbing any moisture; however down is not a good choice if you will be in constantly damp cold or wet snow conditions. Next are the synthetic fills. There are different types of synthetic fills available, some of which are much heavier and bulkier than down but will not collapse when wet. Some of the special synthetic fills are specially treated to resist moisture penetration while still keeping you warm if wet.

After you’ve done a bit of research and familiarized yourself with some of the fabric technologies available, you will next want to know exactly what you will be doing and what sort of weather you can expect. For people interested in adventures such as mountaineering, skiing, ice climbing and other backcountry sports, you will want an excellent jacket offered in one of the waterproof-breathable designs offered. These jackets should offer protection from extreme wind, snow, and rain while still keeping you comfortable. Along with a great jacket you will want to select a compatible pair of pants which will also offer you protection from the elements. When shopping for your clothing you will notice for more extreme conditions there will be three-ply garments which consist of an outer face fabric, a membrane and protective backer, whereas the two-ply garments are more for general use with a lighter liner instead of the knitted inner backing.

The waterproof-breathable designs are excellent for people constantly moving, because of the movement you really need something that breathes. Now on the other hand for people doing outdoor activity where they are making frequent stops or standing around for periods of time they will need outerwear that is insulated to keep them warm. These particular designs come in various synthetic and down fills in a variety of weights and shell materials. The design appropriate for you is again dependant on what sort of activities you’ll be doing.

Now for the people who might not be venturing into quite as extreme conditions they may just need jackets and pants that protect them from the wind. Windwear is not to be confused with rainwear, but is to be used for cool, windy, damp conditions. For outdoor activities such as backcountry skiing and hiking, windwear provides water-resistance in breathable fabrics.

Regardless of what sort of camping or outdoor activities you may do, having proper rainwear is essential when spending time in the wilderness. Having great rain gear such as jackets, pants and hats can make what might have been a bad weather experience and allow for your trip to go on. Excellent rainwear today offers features such as water repellent finishes, fully taped seams, cinched ankle cuffs and reflective trims for safety. Rainwear designs really make hiking in the rain a comfortable pleasure.

One of the most versatile pieces of clothing offered is those made of fleece. Fleece is light in weight, warm even when the weather is wet, and can be used for either a mid-layer or outer layer. Usually used for insulation, fleece also will pick up moisture from the surface of your underwear moving it outwards to keep you dry. Fleece is an excellent addition to any outdoor wardrobe, combined with a two or three ply jacket, windwear or rainwear; it provides added warmth and comfort. Fleece is available in heavyweight, midweight and lightweight options.

Modern underwear is another outdoor clothing option that has improved with time. New polyester blends not only provide needed insulation from the elements but keeps perspiration away from your body while in motion. Unlike cotton, the new fabrics make perspiration evaporate quickly keeping you warm and comfortable.

There are so many outdoor clothing options available. The above mentioned pieces of clothing serve well for protection from all of the elements. There is also clothing available for trekking such as shirts, pants, shorts and t-shirts. Again what is wonderful about all the clothing choices is the excellent fabrics used. Fabrics that dry quickly, keep moisture away, and provide stain, odor and wrinkle resistance.

Lastly, we cannot forget the great clothing accessories that keep our head, hands and feet warm and protected. Gloves available for ice climbing, mountaineering and skiing in waterproof, windproof and breathable fabrics.
